SRINAGAR: The All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) has approached Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging immediate intervention to safeguard Indian medical students in Russia after reports of a violent assault on four Indian students at Bashkir State Medical University.
In a communication to the Prime Minister, AIMSA conveyed serious concern over the incident, noting that such acts threaten the safety and dignity of Indian students and foster fear and insecurity among the large number of medical aspirants studying overseas.
The letter, signed by National President Jitendra Singh and National Representative Mohammad Momin Khan, stated that Indian students go abroad with the goal of becoming healthcare professionals and serving society, and that any violence, discrimination or hostility against them is unacceptable.
AIMSA called on the Government of India to pursue prompt diplomatic engagement with Russian authorities to ensure justice for the victims. It also stressed the need to reinforce safety measures and support systems for Indian students abroad.
The association further sought the issuance of clear advisories, the setting up of emergency helplines for students facing threats or discrimination, and closer monitoring and coordination with foreign universities and governments to prevent similar incidents.
Expressing confidence in the Prime Minister’s leadership, AIMSA said the protection of Indian citizens worldwide must remain a priority. It added that the association stands with the affected students and their families and pressed for timely action to avert such incidents in the future.
The appeal has once again highlighted concerns about the safety of Indian students pursuing medical education overseas, amid recurring reports of violence and harassment.
Reiterating its faith in the leadership of the Prime Minister, AIMSA said safeguarding Indian citizens across the globe must remain a top priority. The association said it stands in solidarity with the affected students and their families and urged timely intervention to prevent similar incidents.
