SRINAGAR: An Air Canada Express aircraft collided with a ground vehicle while landing at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Monday, according to FlightRadar24 reports on X.
The incident involved a CRJ-900 plane arriving from Montreal, which struck a fire truck on Runway 4. Following the collision, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) halted all flights at the airport, citing safety concerns. Officials warned that the closure could be extended, though no specific timeline was confirmed.
LaGuardia’s website indicated that incoming flights were either diverted to alternate airports or returned to their departure points. Unverified social media footage showed damage to the plane’s nose, which appeared tilted upwards.
Several injuries have been reported, though details about the number or severity remain unclear. The FAA also issued a notice to airmen suggesting the airport could remain closed until 1800 GMT.
The incident underscores significant safety concerns and has disrupted air traffic at one of New York’s busiest airports.
