SRINAGAR: Veteran Congressman Mani Shankar Aiyar who is in Kashmir is expected to meet Hurriyat leaders, Sayed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today on Thursday. His observations on Kashmir during a seminar, for which he had actually come, created huge headlines in the newspapers.
Aiyar a former diplomat turned politician is in Kashmir from past few days. Earlier on Tuesday he attended a conference organized by an NGO, Centre for Peace and Progress.
He among other politicians was talking on the theme ‘Discussion on J&K, The Road Ahead’.
Sources said that Aiyar will meet Mirwaiz first in morning and later he will call on octogenarian leader Sayed Ali Shah Geelani later in afternoon. Insiders in the Hurriyat confirmed the scheduled meet.
However, JKLF chairman Yasin Malik is not going to meet him. Spokesperson, of JKLF, while taking to Kashmir Life confirmed that an appointment was sought by Mani Shankar Aiyar, however, that was rejected my Yasin Malik.
Earlier, when a similar delegation led by Yashwant Sinha came to Kashmir to meet Hurriyat leaders, Yasin turned reluctant and didn’t meet them.
