SRINAGAR: Member of Parliament and National Conference leader Akbar Lone, representing the north Kashmir constituency, has formally expressed his commitment to the Indian Constitution. This declaration came after he submitted a sworn affidavit to the Supreme Court of India on Tuesday.
In his affidavit, the NC leader stated that he reiterates the oath to preserve and uphold the provisions of Constitution of India.
Akbar Lone is the lead petitioner in the case challenging abrogation of Article 370 in the Supreme Court.
The backdrop of this development was the objection raised by the Central Government regarding Akbar Lone’s alleged pro-Pakistan statements during his tenure as an MLA in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly. In response to these objections, the Supreme Court had instructed him to submit an affidavit clarifying his stance.
