While addressing the Food Minister Conference in Delhi, the minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Qamar Ali Akhoon pleaded before the Central government for providing ration quota to J&K state as per the 2011 census.

Akhoon informed that being the border state of the country, the ration provided to the state on the basis of 2001 census is not fulfilling the requirement of the J&K as the population of the state has increased manifold.

He also pleaded to release the funds for digitization of records of CA&PD for which state government has already formulated IN to IN computerization project.

For the supply of ration under centrally sponsored welfare schemes, the Minister demanded to continue last year’s quota for this year also. He said there is a dire need to enhance the capacity of ration godowns in the state for which the proposal has been already submitted to Central Government for funding.
