Naeem AkhtarMinister of Education, Naeem Akhtar Tuesday called for value addition of education in government schools that will enable the local students to compete with their counterparts from any part of the world.

The Minster visited various government schools in Srinagar city where he gave on the spot instructions to improve the infrastructure and other requisite facilities in various government schools. He was accompanied by Director School Education Kashmir, Dr Shah Faesal and other officials.

Lauding the efforts of the school administration at Govt Girls High School, Raiteng Miskeen Bagh, the Minister said that small successful interventions by each school can be emulated by others.

The Minister was told that this particular school in Old City area has seen a steady increase in students’ enrolment and has already crossed 250 students. “Several new students have come from private educational institutions after hearing about the quality of education being imparted at Govt Girls High School, Raiteng,” he was told.

The Minister assured additional accommodation for the said school to accommodate the rising population of students.  The Minister also visited the adjoining Gujjar and Bakerwal Hostel, whose students are also on the roll of the school.

The Minister said the focus should be on English Language Proficiency (ELP) to ensure every student right from primary class becomes fluent in this global language.

The Minister said the main purpose of value additions in government schools should be to increase their attraction on the pattern of Private Schools. He called on the schools to stress on extra-curricular activities too.

The Minister also visited the Boys Higher Secondary School Nowpora, Srinagar where he inspected the ongoing construction work on the prefab sheds.

While inspecting the old structure, the Minister ordered immediate demolition of the building as the same can be hazardous for both students and the staff. He also gave instruction for clubbing of Middle School Khalifpora and Primary School Koolipora at Nowpora. The Nowpora Higher Secondary School would be shifted to MP Higher Secondary School, Baghi Dilawar Khan.

The Minister said that the place would be turned into a Model Primary School where students would be taught with the aid of modern teaching methods.

The Minister also visited the MP Higher Secondary School where the government has taken many initiatives to improve the facilities. The Minister got feedback from the students and promised them that every issue would be addressed. He visited the Astroturf volleyball ground and also directed the principal to select a space to construct a canteen for staff and students.
