The railway authorities said the addition of the two new platforms, along with the operationalisation of platforms 4 and 5, has significantly enhanced the station’s capacity to accommodate and manage train operations.

A Northern Railway spokesperson said the commissioning of platforms 6 and 7 would allow more trains to halt and operate simultaneously, resulting in smoother train movement, reduced detention time and improved passenger convenience.

“With platforms 4 and 5 also fully operational, all seven platforms at Jammu Tawi Railway Station are now functional,” the spokesperson said.

Officials said the expanded infrastructure is expected to reduce overcrowding, improve operational efficiency and provide a better travel experience for passengers using one of the region’s busiest railway stations.

The railway administration said the upgraded station would also strengthen rail connectivity to and from Jammu and Kashmir by enabling more efficient handling of passenger traffic.

Passengers have been advised to check train timings and platform information through station announcements and electronic display boards before boarding their trains.

The railway authorities also appealed to commuters to use the newly constructed foot overbridges and designated access routes to reach the new platforms and to follow instructions issued by railway staff for safe movement within the station.
