Employees from Urban Local Bodies and other departments staged a demonstration in Press Enclave here on Friday protesting against “physical assault and mental harassment” of an Executive Officer at Municipal Committee Hajin by some supporters of people’s Democratic Party MLC Yasir Reshi.

The protest was organized by the Urban Local Bodies Employees United Forum. “Officers have been subjected to physical assaults and mental harassment not only by the public but also by the supporters of political leader’s. The attack on Executive Officer Shakil Ahmed Shah was recent example of hooliganism and we appeal Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed to initiate action against MLC Yasir Reshi,” the protesters told CNS adding that the government should take measures to ensure the safety of working employees.

“Some political leaders after misusing their power and position do not allow officials to follow laws, rules and regulations and use their supporters to cow them down. We condemn the assault on officials and employees in Hajin and seek Chief Minister’s intervention,” the protesting employees said.

Police detained dozens of protesting employees after they tried to proceed towards city centre Lal Chowk.
