SRINAGAR: An alleged bovine smuggler, identified as Mohd Azam from Kothian village in Pouni tehsil, Jammu and Kashmir, was apprehended in Reasi district on Saturday.

Azam, a known figure in bovine smuggling, has been incarcerated in Kot Bhalwal jail following his arrest.

The move was taken under the Public Safety Act (PSA) based on directives from Reasi Senior Superintendent of Police Amit Gupta.

Azam’s detention order was formally issued by the district magistrate due to his involvement in five FIRs spanning over the past three years. These cases, registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, occurred in Rajouri, Reasi, and Jammu.

The decision to enforce the PSA was driven by Azam’s persistent engagement in bovine smuggling and other criminal activities, aiming to protect the wider public.
