Irshad Rasool Kar, the newly elected National Conference representative from Sopore said that all newly elected Members of the Legislative Assembly from the National Conference will attend the meeting.

“The meeting is scheduled for this afternoon,” said National Conference senior leader Nasir Aslam Wani said.

In addition to discussing government formation with the Congress, the meeting will address the Common Minimum Programme.

Sources in the National Conference indicated that the Congress party is likely to hold its internal meeting first. “After that, we’ll need to convene an alliance meeting. It is essential for us to collectively approach the Lieutenant Governor with the necessary letters of support. Once those are secured and the leadership of the alliance is finalised, the chosen leader will visit Raj Bhavan to meet the LG and request a date for the swearing-in ceremony,” NC sources said.

Meanwhile, a Congress leader in Srinagar said that Congress’s Jammu and Kashmir Chief, Tariq Hameed Karra, is likely to return to Srinagar from New Delhi either this evening or tomorrow morning to attend a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party to elect the CLP leader.

They will also discuss the formation of the government with the NC.

Congress has won six seats—five in Kashmir and one in Jammu.

After the Legislature Party leaders of both NC and Congress are elected, the alliance partners will elect their joint leader, who will be the next Chief Minister. (KINS)
