SRINAGAR: The capacity of the 220/132/33 KV Alusteng Grid Station is proposed to be increased from 320 MVA to 475 MVA at an estimated cost of Rs 56.78 crore to strengthen power transmission and improve electricity supply in parts of Srinagar and Ganderbal districts.

Minister for Power Development Department (PDD), Ali Mohammad Sagar, reviewed the power supply scenario and the department’s winter preparedness during a visit to the grid station on Saturday.
During the visit, the Minister assessed the station’s existing capacity, functioning and power distribution arrangements, and reviewed measures being taken to ensure adequate and reliable electricity supply during the winter months.
He directed officers to minimise unscheduled power cuts and ensure that consumers receive electricity according to the prescribed curtailment schedule. He also stressed timely maintenance, effective planning and better coordination among field functionaries to address the anticipated increase in power demand during winter.
Sagar asked Chief Engineers and other senior officers to maintain regular coordination with local representatives and residents, assess ground-level requirements and address public grievances promptly. He specifically directed officers to focus on Kangan and adjoining areas and take appropriate measures to resolve electricity-related issues.
The Minister also said that an amnesty scheme for electricity consumers was in the pipeline, adding that the proposal was currently under consideration.
Officers informed him that the Alusteng Grid Station, with an existing transformation capacity of 320 MVA, supplies several areas of Srinagar and Ganderbal districts, including Alusteng, Shuhama, Nagbal, Gadoora, Tulbagh and adjoining areas through its associated receiving stations.
The proposed augmentation to 475 MVA is aimed at meeting the growing electricity demand and improving the availability, reliability and quality of power supply in the areas served by the station.
Chief Engineers of the concerned wings of the PDD and other senior officers were present during the visit.
Later, the Minister met several public delegations and individuals who raised various civic issues and developmental requirements. He assured them that their genuine grievances would be taken up with the concerned departments for timely resolution.
