SRINAGAR: A fresh batch of 2,051 pilgrims departed from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu early Wednesday for the Baltal base camp to undertake the ongoing annual Shri Amarnath Yatra, officials said.
The 22nd batch left at 2:45 a.m. under stringent security arrangements in a convoy of 82 vehicles, comprising 48 buses, eight medium motor vehicles (MMVs), 25 light motor vehicles (LMVs) and one two-wheeler.
According to officials, the batch comprises 1,570 men, 369 women, two children, 58 sadhus, 21 sadhvis, one sadhu child and 30 foreign nationals, including 14 men and 16 women.
Officials said all pilgrims in the latest convoy are travelling via the Baltal route, while no convoy was scheduled for the Pahalgam axis on Wednesday.
With the departure of the latest batch, the cumulative number of pilgrims who have left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu for the holy cave shrine during this year’s pilgrimage has risen to 1,32,406, officials added.
