SRINAGAR: A suspected Over Ground Worker (OGW) was detained by police after the Facial Recognition System (FRS) generated an alert at the X-ray screening point in Nunwan, Pahalgam, during the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, officials said on Monday.
According to police, the individual was identified as Faisal Muzaffar, son of Muzaffar Ahmad, a resident of Babhara in Pulwama district. Acting on the alert generated by the Facial Recognition System, security personnel intercepted and detained him for verification and further legal proceedings.
Police said the incident underscores the effectiveness of the technology-enabled security grid deployed for the annual pilgrimage, with advanced surveillance systems playing a key role in identifying and tracking persons of security interest.
The Facial Recognition System has been installed as part of enhanced security arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra to strengthen surveillance and ensure the safety of pilgrims.
Police said robust security measures remain in place across the Yatra route and appealed to the public to cooperate with security agencies to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the pilgrimage.
