SRINAGAR: With the death of an injured woman pilgrim in Srinagar, the death toll in the July 10, attack on Amarnath pilgrims has gone up to eight. The woman was one of the two seriously injured pilgrims who was not flown out to Surat on July 11, by the IAF charter.

Official sources said here identified the woman pilgrim as Lalitaben. She was one of the 18 injured pilgrims who were admitted to SKIMS last week. Most of them, who were stable, were flown out to Surat but two were retained by the SKIMS here.

The police here have started investigating the attack. They have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) that has already rounded up a driver for questioning. The driver was deployed to the lawmaker Aijaz Ahmad Mir. Police had earlier accused Lashkar-e-Toiba militant for the attack but the militant outfit has denied the charge.

Confirming the death, hospital sources said her body has already been taken over by the police. The body will be flown to Gujarat, later today.
