With sun soaring in Indian plains, rush to mountains is mounting. Mercury touching above 40 degrees Celsius has already made people to fly for cooler climes, including Kashmir.

Preferring Kashmir seems to be an instant choice for the travellers — given the relatively less cost involved, says the local tour operators.

A weeklong visit to Kashmir costs around Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 per person, they say.

“While a weeklong visit elsewhere cost Indian tourists between Rs 60,000 and Rs 80,000 per head,” says one Srinagar-based tour operator.

A weeklong stay in foreign places like Europe, preferred mainly by high-end Indian tourists, carries cost of around Rs 1.5 lakh per head.

But on face fluctuating airfares, however, a huge tourist rush is pouring in hilly areas like Kashmir than to fly foreign.

Kashmir, said reports, has revived greatly as a tourist destination.

“The main motive behind visiting Kashmir is to escape from the scorching sun,” one Indian tourist said. “Kashmir is cool and picturesque besides it suits the pocket.”
