Sarai BalaAmid protests and shutdown, people from Sarai Bala Tuesday offered prayers in absentia for the two “militants” killed by forces Monday night.

Earlier, the locals from Sarai Bala area in Maharaja Bazar area of Srinagar observed shutdown against the killings of two “militants” in a late night encounter in the area.

The residents took to streets and held protests against the killings. Police had said that one of the militants was a foreigner and that both were associated with militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad. A police spokesperson identified the foreigner as Saifullah.

Sarai BalaaMeanwhile, police resorted to teargas shelling in the area to disperse the protestors.

Earlier on Monday suspected gunmen killed three policemen in two separate attacks in Zadibal and Tengpora areas of Srinagar. Militant outfit, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen had claimed the responsibility of the twin attacks.
