SRINAGAR: Adbi Markaz Kamraz, one of Kashmir’s major literary bodies, has elected Mohammad Amin Bhat as its president. He was one of the four persons who contested the election for leading the body. Bhat won with 57 votes as Farooq Rafiabadi emerged the runner up.

The election took place on Sunday at the Markaz office at Kanispora Baramulla . As per information available, Akhtar Mansoor and Javaid Iqbal are the two Vice Presidents.

Shabnam Tilgami is the Secretary General and the votes he polled suggested he is the most popular. He polled 111 votes. Markaz has 140 votes of which 139 were polled on Sunday. Farooq Shaheen is Markaz secretary, Majeed Majaz is treasurer, Zahoora Hygami is the librarian and Jameel Ansari is media secretary.

Bhat has been a member of the Markaz – a federation of almost 30 cultura oraganisations operating in north Kashir – since 1985. He has been its Secreary General for three years with Shujaat Bukhari as the president. Bhat is basically a playright and a threatre director who has some of the best stage dramas to his credit. Some of his plays are highly aclaimed and hugely appreciated especially those pertainting to the contemporary Kashmir.

A producer, Bhat has been associate with TV for a long time. He contiues to be anchor of a prgramme that has complated almost three decades of operation. The programme name and the producers chnaged unlike the key anchor.

Bhat succeeded Farooq Rafiabadi for a three year term.
