District Development Commissioner Anantnag, Khalid Jahangir on Wednesday convened a meeting to review the functioning of Municipal Council Anantnag and implementation of various schemes.

Chairman Municipal Council Anantnag, Hilal Ahmad Shah, Chief Executive Officer MC Anantnag, Municipal Councilors, Project Engineers, Housing Board and other concerned attended the meeting.

The meeting was informed that the Government has released Rs. 5.58 Crore under the 14th FC for Municipal Council Anantnag.

The meeting finalized Action Plan for procurement of machinery, Equipment, solid waste management, beautification of the town, green spaces, street lighting, creation of basic infrastructure and provision of amenities for the residents.

The meeting decided to earmark Rs. 1.76 Crore for procurement of machinery and equipment including Hoopers, Suckers, Dumper Placers, Small Snow Cats and Dust Bins.

The DDC directed the concerned to outsource door to door solid waste in 07 wards as a pilot project. The meeting was informed that the tenders for outsourcing, segregation and waste collection from households will be floated by the Municipal Council soon.

The meeting earmarked Rs 1.00 Crore for Marriage Hall which is being built in Anantnag Town by R&B Division Khanabal at an estimated cost of Rs. 4.75 Crore. “Balance funding shall be released after the earmarked funds shall be utilized by the Executing Agency,” the meeting was told.

It was also decided to set up a Children’s Park near Khanabal Bridge while Rs. 73.00 lakh have been sanctioned for construction of Vermi Composting unit at Uranhall.

The meeting was also informed that land has been identified for the shifting of General Bus Stand form the present location to the outskirts so as to decongest the town.

The DDC was informed that a DPR is being prepared by R&B Division Khanabal for beautification and remodelling of the KP Road which is the main artery of the town and gateway to Pahalgam. The meeting was told that the DPR shall be ready in a week.

The DDC asked to incentivize the field staff of MC Anantnag for the collection of plastic waste.
