SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police said they have booked five drug peddlers and a “notorious thief” under Public Safety Act (PSA) after obtaining the necessary sanctions from the authorities in Kupwara and Budgam districts.
In Kupwara, the spokesman said three drug peddlers identified as Bashir Pandith son of Mohammad Asadullah resident of Hirri Qadir Abad, Abdul Rashid Malik son of Ghulam Nabi Malik resident of Malik Mohalla Kupwara and Zaheer Ahmad Chak @ Shani son of Late Ghulam Nabi Chak resident of Khawarpora Karnah involved in various cases of narcotic crimes were detained under PSA.
Besides, a notorious thief identified as Haris Ahmad Sheikh @Andha Kanoon son of Abdul Rashid Sheikh of Tikker Kupwara has also been detained under PSA for his involvement in more than six cases of theft in the areas of Kupwara and Handwara. It is pertinent to mention that because of his notoriety and massive involvement in theft cases he had gained the disreputable name Andha Kanoon over a period of time.
In Budgam, two notorious drug peddlers identified as Hilal Ahmed Mir @ Hilal Galwan son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir resident of Galwan Mohalla Mazhama and Zubair Ahmad Mir son of Bashir Ahmad Mir resident of Mazhama Magam were detained under PSA for their involvement in many NDPS cases. The duo was involved in several FIRs and was promoting the drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth of district Budgam.
Subsequently, the cases were duly processed and after obtaining sanctions from the concerned authorities, all the arrested accused persons were detained under Public Safety Act.
Meanwhile, the police said they arrested four drug peddlers in Kupwara, Budgam and Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Kupwara, the police have arrested three drug peddlers in two separate actions. Acting on specific information regarding drug peddling in the Diver Kadiwan area, a police party led by SHO Police Station Lalpora raided the specific spot and arrested two drug peddlers identified as Saqib Nazir Bhat son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat and Asif Ahmad Wani son of Bashir Ahmad Wani both residents of Diver Lolab. During the search, officers were able to recover 200 grams of Charas like substance from their possession.
Similarly in another action, a police party led by SHO PS Kupwara along with the Executive Magistrate arrested a drug peddler near Bed College Dragmulla after receiving information about the drug trade in the area. He has been identified as Beedar Ahmad Mir son of Gulam Rasool Mir resident of Jaggarpora. Officers were able to recover 300 grams of Charas like substance from his possession. They have been shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody.
In Budgam, a police party of Police Station Budgam during daily routine checking at Bathar Budgam intercepted a vehicle (ZEN) bearing registration number JKO1J-1987 driven by one person identified as Adil Manzoor Paul@ Zaffer son of Manzoor Ahmed Paul resident of Narkara Budgam. During the search, apparently, 6.40 grams of Heroin was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.
Moreover in Kulgam, officers from PS Kulgam at a checkpoint established at Vess Batapora intercepted one person who was roaming in suspicious condition. During the search, 08 Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Mashooq Ahmad Hella son of Abdul Rashid Hella resident of Vesbatpora, Kulgam. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation set into motion.
