SRINAGAR: Aanganwadi workers on Wednesday staged a protest in Press Enclave Srinagar, demanding regularization of their services, payment of honorarium on a monthly basis and disbursement of their pending wages.

Having assembled under the banner of Aanganwadi Workers and Helpers Union, scores of Anganwadi workers assembled in Press Enclave Srinagar on Wednesday noon and staged a protest.

Raising slogans in demand of payment of their honorarium regularly at the month-end, they said that their wages are pending for the last eight months, with the result they are faced with tremendous financial difficulties.

“Is this the reward to us for being deployed to toughest kind of duties,” said one of the protesting workers.

“From election to Covid-19, we have performed duties, but when it comes to payment of our wages, we are being ignored and sidelined,” she added.

Another protestor said that wages of supervisors and helpers have been withheld since last year without a reason, which goes against the logic of government slogan ‘Beti padhaw beti bachaw’.

There has been no DPC in ICDS, whereas in other departments DPC is done on a yearly basis.

“This is great injustice with us as there are so many graduate and postgraduates working as Aanganwadi workers,” she added.

The protestors demanded the immediate release of their pending honorariums and regularization of their services. (KDC)
