A photograph of a local army soldier has gone viral on social media with netizens claiming that the said soldier has joined militant ranks.

The photograph that is making rounds on social media is of Idrees Ahmed Mir son of Muhammad Sultan Mir, a resident of Safnagri Wachi are of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

The relatives of Mir said that he went missing a couple of day’s back after returning from Bihar India where he is posted.

He is affiliated with 12 Jammu Army’s Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI).

“Mir returned back to his village some 12 days back. He abruptly disappeared but we don’t know where he is. We came to know some people that his photograph along with an assault rifle has gone viral on social media,” said a local.

If sources are to be believed, a couple of more youth have joined militant ranks. Sources added that these youth who joined militancy recently hail from Mool Chitragam Shopian, Malikpora Arwani Kulgam and Kandi Bagh Kakapora area of Pulwama district.

When contacted, Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone, SP Pani told CNS that they are ascertaining the facts. “We have to wait till we get confirmation,” he said.
