A fresh batch of 4,000 pilgrims on Saturday left Jammu for the Kashmir Valley to perform the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, an official said.

An official said that the yatris left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in an escorted convoy of vehicles. “This includes yatris going to both Baltal and Pahalgam base camps,” he said.

So far, 29 pilgrims have died during the yatra. In addition to this, two volunteers and two security men also lost their lives.

The 45-day long annual Amarnath Yatra which started on July 1 has been going on smoothly. Till date, over three lakh pilgrims have paid their obeisance at Amarnath cave.

The 45-day Amarnath Yatra will end on August 15, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima festival.
