Soon after being removed as Peoples Democratic Party’s General Secretary, Sheikh Mehboob Iqbal on Monday resigned from the basic membership of the party.

Talking to media, Sheikh said that he has resigned from the basic membership of the party after he was removed from the post of General Secretary. He added that there is no fun to be in the party anymore after he was removed from the post. “There is nepotism in the party due to which the leaders are resigning,” he said adding that soon he will join NC.

He contested Assembly election from Bhaderwah constituency in the year 2014 and got 17000 votes largest percentage in whole Chenab Valley. Along with Mehboob Iqbal whole team from Bhaderwah constituency and some from district body also resigned from PDP.

Meanwhile, PDP suffered another jolt when its senior leader and former bureaucrat Bashir Ahmad Runyal announced his decision to quit the party.

Runyal, a former IAS officer who was Ramban district president and state secretary of the PDP, had joined the party prior to the 2014 assembly polls after his retirement and had unsuccessfully contested the elections from Banihal constituency.

Prominent among those who left the party included former ministers Haseeb Drabu, Imran Reza Ansari and Syed Basharat Bukhari and former MLAs Abid Hussain Ansari and Mohammad Abbass Wani.
