The Indian Embassy in Oman said it was closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with local authorities to obtain further details regarding the incident.

“We have learnt of an incident involving a vessel off Shinas Port of Oman earlier today. We are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with the local authorities for further details,” the embassy said in a post on X.

According to the Forward Seamen’s Union of India, MT Jalveer had 20 crew members on board at the time of the incident. Iran’s Mehr News Agency reported that five crew members were rescued by passing vessels and taken to Oman.

The latest incident follows two other maritime emergencies involving vessels with Indian crew members in the region. Earlier, three Indian sailors were reported missing after the Palau-flagged oil tanker MT Settebello came under attack off the Oman coast. Prior to that, a fire broke out aboard MT Marivex, carrying 24 Indian seafarers south of the Strait of Hormuz, following an attack on the vessel.

The incidents come amid heightened tensions in the region and continuing disruptions to maritime traffic around the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy corridor.

Indian authorities are closely monitoring developments and remain engaged with regional counterparts regarding the safety and welfare of Indian seafarers operating in the area.
