SRINAGAR: Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of JK Police, a specialised unit to combat the rising menace of drugs, on Saturday, recovered a substantial quantity of heroin worth crores of rupees in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

A spokesman in a statement said that based on the specific information, two drug peddlers, Talib Hussain Seer and Mohammad Azim Seer, residents of Amshipora Shopian, were transporting contraband (heroin) on a motorcycle bearing registration number DL5SAP 3926 to sell it among other drug peddlers at Vehil Shopian.

“Accordingly, Police Station ANTF Kashmir registered a case under FIR number 01/2023 under sections 8/21, 29 NDPS Act. Subsequently, the ANTF team, under the immediate command of DySP ANTF Kmr and under the close supervision of SSP ANTF JK, reached Vehil Shopian and apprehended the peddlers riding on the motorcycle. They recovered 500 grams of heroin worth crores concealed underneath the seat of the motorcycle, from their possession in the presence of an Executive Magistrate,” it reads.

ANTF JK appealed to the general public to share information regarding such drug dealers active in their respective areas so that appropriate action, as warranted under the law, is taken against such drug peddlers to uproot this menace from our society.
