Anti-Corruption Court Grants Bail to Police Officer in Rs 8 Lakh Bribery Case

   

SRINAGAR: A special anti-corruption court in Srinagar on Saturday granted interim bail to a police officer in a bribery case.

After hearing the prosecution and defence counsel, the court granted the officer 20 days of interim bail.

In May, the ACB trapped and arrested SHO of Pantha Chowk police station, Azim Iqbal Khan, and his accomplice, Mushtaq Ahmad Abassi, for demanding a bribe of Rs 8 lakh.

As per the prosecution, the ACB received a written complaint alleging that Khan, through his accomplice Mushtaq Ahmad, was demanding Rs 8 lakh as a bribe for issuing a report in an accident case to the complainant.

During the course of the investigation by the ACB, a trap team was constituted, and the SHO and his accomplice were apprehended red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant—(KNO).
