The former agriculture minister and DPN chief Ghulam Hassan Mir on Wednesday said he accepts the peoples’ verdict and anti- establishment factor and not the wave of PDP proved detrimental in his defeat.

Mir told KNS that people in the democratic set-up are the best judges and they are the ones who decide who could lead them and represent them.

Mir added that he accepts peoples’ verdict and that it was the anti-establishment wave that proved vital role in his defeat from Gulamarg assembly segment during the recent state elections of 2014.  Mir also welcomes the decision of conferring Bharat Ratna to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, saying he was deserving of such honor since long.

Pertinently, famous for its ski resort, Gulmarg held importance as a vital tourism sector of the state. And Mir during his stint as the Minister for Tourism in the previous government was attributed with the growth of the tourism industry in general and Gulmarg and Tangmarg in particular.

Mir was also credited for the peace in a once volatile area that served as an important infiltration route during the peak of militant insurgency in the state, a fact that senior leader boasts of proudly.

During poll rallies in the segment, the Minister for Agriculture  had said not a single person from his constituency has been booked under the “draconian” Public Safety Act (PSA).

He was also seen by his supporters as a strong pro-Kashmir voice and the one for the empowerment of youth.
