SRINAGAR: The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Udhampur, Rayees Mohd Bhat, on Monday stated that a search operation is underway in the woods of Udhampur to apprehend the attackers of a village defence guard (VDG).

DIG Udhampur said the operation is ongoing in the woods. He mentioned that their search parties are combing through the deep forests and they have also deployed drone surveillance to track the recently infiltrated group.

He further stated that they have strengthened their intelligence efforts.

Pertinently, a village defence guard (VDG) member, identified as Mohd Sharief, was killed in a gunfight with recently infiltrated terrorists in a remote village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district early on Sunday.

On Sunday evening, the Additional Director General of Police, Jammu zone, Anand Jain, said a massive search operation is ongoing to track down and neutralize the terrorists who have infiltrated from Pakistan.

The ADGP stated that two groups of terrorists are believed to be present in the area after they recently infiltrated from across the border. (KS)
