Residents of Miasuma locality of Srinagar Saturday faced heavy tear gas shelling for holding a protest demonstration against the “controversial” National Food Security Act (NFSA).

The protestors mainly women came out on Budshah Bridge and stopped vehicular movement. The protestors raised anti-administration slogans demanding revocation of the Act.

Witnesses said that police used tear gas shells to control the protests. However, a police official at Maisuma Police station denied the use of tear gas shelling despite photographic evidence.

In the Police action, witnesses said, three women sustained minor injuries.
