SRINAGAR: The Supreme Court Collegium, on January 4, 2024, suggested Justice Rahul Bharti, presently serving as an Additional Judge, for the permanent Judge position at the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The High Court Collegium, on 21 August 2023, collectively recommended Justice Rahul Bharti for the permanent Judge role.

In adherence to the Memorandum of Procedure, Supreme Court Judges familiar with the affairs of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh were consulted to assess Shri Justice Rahul Bharti’s suitability for the permanent Judge role. As per the October 26, 2017, Collegium resolution, a Committee of two Judges from the Supreme Court evaluated Justice Rahul Bharti’s judgments, rating them as “Good” and “fairly reasonable.”

Following a thorough examination of the provided material, the Collegium, comprising (Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud), Chief Justice of India, (Sanjiv Khanna), and (B R Gavai), is collectively of the opinion that Justice Rahul Bharti, currently serving as an Additional Judge, is fitting and suitable for elevation to the position of permanent Judge.

Consequently, the Collegium has resolved to recommend the appointment of Shri Justice Rahul Bharti as a permanent Judge at the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, filling one of the existing vacancies.
