All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) while welcoming the state government’s decision to hold the Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (GPC) elections has demanded that the existing Prabhandak committees should be taken over by the receiver appointed by the administration.

As per a statement APSCC Chairman, Jagmohan Singh Raina has said that the elections are being held after a gap of 10 years and as such steps should be taken so that the elections are free and fair. He said, “Once the management of existing Prabhandak Committees is taken over by the receiver appointed by the administration it would ensure that nobody is allowed to rig the elections.”

“The elections were due to be held in 2008 but these are being held after a gap of five years. Nevertheless, we welcome the decision as it is a step in right direction. For ensuring the success of elections it is important that the existing Prabhandak Committees are ceased and their control is taken over by the receiver appointed by the administration,” said Jagmohan.

The APSCC chairman has also said that the model code of conduct should come into force immediately so that the assets of the Gurdwaras are intact and there is no tampering. He said nobody should be allowed to tamper with these assets and all of them including cash savings are in safe hands.
