Authorities on Wednesday ordered the closure of schools near the Line of Control (LoC) in Degwar area of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir following heavy exchange of fire and shelling between the armies of India and Pakistan.

Reports said that shelling and firing from across the border started at 8:45 am in Degwar, Maldiyalan and Tarwan areas along the LoC.

“Pakistan army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics and mortars from 8:45 am.”

The exchange of fire was going on when this report was being filed.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Poonch Tariq Zargar ordered the closure of all government and private schools today in Degwar area.
