SRINAGAR: The armies of India and Pakistan on Saturday exchanged heavy fire, shelling in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district, officials said.

An official said that the Pakistani troops targeted Indian army posts by firing mortars and other weapons in the Hiranagar sector at about 10 pm last night.

“The soldiers manning the fence also responded the fire strongly,” he said. Several houses were damaged in Chak Changa village by shelling, he added.

However, there were no immediate reports of loss of life from either side, said an official.
