Army soldiers of 24 RR in Ganderbal district barged into police station Gund and beat up policemen on duty, ransacked the property of the police station during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

A top cop of the district told Kashmir Life that at least 32 Army men in civvies barged into the police station building and attacked the policemen there.

The army men according to reports were on way to Amarnath Yatra and were travelling beyond the cut off time. As per the directions of IG police Kashmir the cut off time for vehicles to pass Sonmarg is 2 PM.

“When the police party deployed in Sonamarg tried to stop them for going ahead they beat them before moving to Gund village.” The army men traveling in a civilian vehicle barged into Gund police station and thrashed the policemen, a police official said. However, they were later joined by the army in uniform.

At least six policemen were injured in the army action. “Two of them have received grievous injuries,” a police official wishing anonymity said.

Srinagar based defence spokesperson Rajesh Kalia told Kashmir Life, “I do not have any information about the incident yet, I will ascertain the facts and get back to you.”

Sonamarg Police and Gund Police station have registered FIRs against the army personnel.
