In the wake of killing of five soldiers on the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistan, Army Chief General Bikram Singh is likely to visit Poonch sector Wednesday to  assess the situation and get a feedback from senior Army officers. “If the weather permits, he will reach here at the Technical Airport in the morning before heading straight to Poonch sector in a chopper,” a top Army source was quoted by a news agency.

Reportedly the visit of Army chief was being planned by the Army headquarters in Delhi.

“We got a call from the Army headquarters in the afternoon. We are in touch with the headquarters and his visit depends upon fair weather conditions,” he said.

Pertinently General Bikram had last visited Jammu on April 23 last.

According to sources, the Indians attacked were on patrol duty along the LoC in what the army describes as “an area domination exercise” in the Chakandabad area of Poonch.

The assault is likely to impact plans for a resumption of peace talks between India and Pakistan.
