Army on Friday claimed that its alert troops deployed on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Gurez Sector of Kupwara foiled a major attempt of infiltration by the militants, resulting into the death of one militant and injury to another.

“Based on specific information from intelligence agencies regarding likelihood of militants attempting infiltration in Gurez Sector of the frontline Division of North Kashmir, troops detected three militants moving in the forest area on the our side of Line of Control (LoC),” an army statement said.

It added that the militants were immediately engaged by firing from the post located along the fence.“The fire was very effective and resulted in the elimination of one militant, while the remaining two managed to escape under the cover of thick foliage. However, one militant was observed to be injured.” Army statement added.

One AK 47 and two rucksacks containing War Like and other administrative store were also recovered from the site. The army statement said that Lt Gen Gurmit Singh, the Chinar Corps Commander, commended the troops for their dedication and high degree of alertness. He also congratulated all the security agencies for their synergy and said that the operation in Gurez Sector was a mark of jointness.
