Army on Monday claimed to have recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition from Machil Setor in frontier district of Kupwara in North Kashmir.
A defence spokesman in a statement issued to Global News Service said that based on a tip off, column of Rashtriya Rifles Battalion of Machhal Brigade launched a search operation in Machil Sector on Sunday morning and unearthed a cache of arms and ammunitions in the area between the Line of Control and the fence.
“One AK-56 Rifle with ten magazines and 300 rounds, four pistols (Chinese) with four magazines, one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) with 12 grenades and three hand grenades (Chinese) were recovered from the site”, the spokesman said.
In recent operations in Kupwara district, similar caches of war like stores have been recovered on Apr 9, Jun 8 and Jun 25 as well, he said.
“Army is doing its best to deny any chance of infiltration or smuggling of weapons through LC. This is a major success in foiling the attempts of militants to disturb peace in the area,” the spokesman added.
