National Conference’s senior leader and additional general secretary Dr Mustafa Kamal alleged that Army helped congress in winning assembly seats during the elections of 2002 and 2008 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Kamal, who is also uncle of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, said that congress is bound to ‘ditch’ NC all the time.

Kamal further accused Congress of killing thousands of NC workers across valley including some of its senior men. “They failed with the gun to dislodge us, we came back with 2/3rd majority in 1996, and when they fail on all fronts, they are resorting to other tactics at present,” said Kamal.

He further alleged that Congress by ‘hook or crook’ wants to capture power.

He further accused that the speech of the former Prime Minister Atal Biharai Vajpayee at Delhi’s red fort before 2002, vindicate how much serious was Delhi in uprooting the national conference in the state. “He(Vajpayee) declared that free and fair elections are going to be conducted in Jammu and Kashmir, why didn’t he mention any other state at that
time,” asked Kamal. Kamal alleged that Delhi manipulated those elections and gave notion that earlier the polls in the state were rigged.

Commenting on the coalition of National conference and Congress at present , Kamal said that the ‘deadline’ of coalition is near and that it has to go. “Many people in our party have learnt a lesson, who perhaps had a perception that congress cannot ditch us, now the truth is dawned on us that it is difficult to change person’s habit,” said NC additional general secretary. “We have learnt a lesson and it will guide us in the future course of action.”

When asked about Aslam Goni-Farooq Abdullah’s former political advisor-joining the congress camp, Kamal said that he meant ‘little’ to the national conference. Terming Aslam Goni a ‘political turn coat’, Kamal said that he (Goni) can always change affiliations.”Aya ram, gaya ram”

Claiming that Goni was not on any political position in national conference,Kamal said that to national conference, Goni was of ‘little consequence’ . “Goni didn’t belong to that cadre which has a following and he doesn’t matter politically to us.”

Kamal further mentioned that the people here are associated with NC since last 7 decades because of its ‘principles and sacrifices ‘.”People know that from slaves, they are now the masters of their own land and it is all because of the sacrifices the NC has rendered for the people of the state.”
