Two forces personnel were killed on Tuesday morning during an encounter with militants in Khrew area of Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
An official said that acting on a tipoff, a joint team of army and police launched a search operation after specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
“As the forces started searches in the area, the hiding militants opened firing indiscriminately which resulted in firearm injuries to an army and SOG personnel,” he said.
He added that both the injured were admitted in Badami Bagh hospital for specialized treatment, However, they succumbed to their injuries.
The deceased were identified as Rifleman Rahul of 50 RR and SOG man Shahbaz Manjkoot of Rajouri.
He said that the search operation is still going on in the area.
