A militant and an Army man were killed in Nowgam sector of Kupwara district on Friday, taking death toll to five during the two day’s long anti-militancy operation.
Pertinently, in Nowgam Sector Army had claimed on Thursday that it foiled an infiltration bid by killing three militants. The operation according to Army continued for the second day on Friday in which a militant and a soldier were killed.
Srinagar based Defence spokesperson Colonel NN Joshi told CNS that all the bodies of four militants along with 4 AK47 rifles were recovered from the encounter site.
He said that during the gun fight a Non-Commissioned Officer of Rashtriya Rifles, Hangpan Dada, who led his team and brought effective fire on the militants got profusely injured and later on succumbed to his injuries.
“The operation has been concluded while the identity of the militants has not been ascertained yet,” he said.
