SRINAGAR: An Army man was killed in cross-LoC firing in Manjakot sector of Rajouri district on Wednesday night. A civilian was also injured in Rajdhani village of Manjakot sector.

“Pakistan resorted to heavy shelling along the LoC in Manjakot sector on Wednesday night,” he said.

He said that an army man sustained injuries in firing in Tarkundi area yesterday evening. He was shifted to a hospital in Rajouri where he succumbed to injuries.

The deceased was identified as Naik Gurcharan Singh, a resident of Gurdaspur district in Punjab. His body has been shifted to Rajouri hospital for autopsy.

“A police constable on leave sustained a shoulder injury due to splinters in the Manjakote area. He has been shifted to hospital for treatment,” said an official.

Reports also said some cattle had perished in shelling in addition to damages caused to homes in Poonch and Rajouri districts.

On June 4, an Army havildar was killed in mortar shelling in Sunderbani sector in Rajouri district.
