One army soldier was killed in an encounter with militants in Aglar village of Pulwama district in southern part of Kashmir, reports said on Monday.

A police official said that an army soldier Sham Sundar of 44 RR sustained serious bullet injuries during exchange of fire with militants and was referred to Army hospital here where he succumbed.

A civilian namely Tariq Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Bhat resident of Kandi Aglar was also injured when massive clashes between locals and forces erupted in the area amid encounter. The civilian sustained bullet wound below his heart on left side of his chest and has been hospitalized.

Meanwhile, Internet services have been snapped in Pulwama district in wake of the gunfight.

Gunfight broke out in the village after forces including Jammu and Kashmir police and Rashtriya Rifles of Indian Army cordoned off the village after inputs about the presence of militants, officials said.

They said that the militants fored upon the forces triggering a gunfight.
