SRINAGAR: An army man was killed and two others were injured during an encounter at Dragad area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday, officials said.

Officials said that during the exchange of fire, three army men were critically injured and later one succumbed to their injuries.

Earlier officials said that two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were killed and three army personnel injured in an encounter in Shopian district.

One of the slain militant has been identified as Adil Wani, who was involved in the killing of a carpenter from Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur, three days back, IGP, Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar, said.

Officials said the army, police, and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Dragad area of Shopian district following information about the presence of militants there.

The search operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire on the forces, who retaliated.

The officials said two militants of The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow outfit of Lashkar-e-Toiba, had been killed.

Three army personnel sustained injuries in the operation, the officials said.
