SRINAGAR: A 27-year-old army man on Friday shot himself dead with his service rifle along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
An official said that a soldier, identified as Mohit Kumar of 39 Rashtriya Rifles was posted at a forward area in Mankote sector. He shot himself on around 2.40 am and died on spot, he said.
He said that originally from 16 Grenadiers, the soldier was posted at post number 43 in the forward area of Mankote sector.
He added the motive behind his taking the extreme step was not known immediately.
A case has been registered.
