SRINAGAR: A soldier allegedly shot himself dead inside a camp where he was posted in Kupwara district of north Kashmir, officials said on Monday.

Quoting the officials, news agency GNS reported that the soldier of Havildar rank identified as Shinde Sandeep Arjun was posted at Drangyari Chowkibal when he shot himself with his own service rifle at around 4:30 a.m. He was shifted to an army hospital in Srinagar but succumbed to the injuries, officials said.

An official said that a case has been registered in this regard and further investigation taken up.

Pertinently, a Major ranked soldier shot himself dead at a residential quarter at Mahu Bal area of J&K’s Ramban district on the night of December 11.
