SRINAGAR: An Army officer was killed in an encounter with militants in the Akar Forest area of Doda on Wednesday.
Quoting sources, GNS that Captain Deepak led from the front, directing his men to neutralise the militants. However, the captain suffered gunshot injuries during the firefight and was evacuated to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
“Captain Deepak led from the front and was the third person behind the scouts when the search operation commenced,” a senior officer told GNS, adding that he fired on the militant group both last night and this morning.
“Despite his gunshot wounds, he continued to direct his men for as long as he could.”
Meanwhile, the search operation in the area is ongoing.
