Army said on Tuesday that its personnel saved three precious lives in the areas of Kupwara and Bandipora Districts.

A statement said that on Mar 31, Mrs Nisara Begum of Tangdhar had developed serious pregnancy related complications and required immediate medical surgery. “Army and Airforce were approached by civil authorities at Tangdhar for air evacuation of the lady,” the statement said adding “Mrs Nisara Begum was air lifted along with her husband and daughter to Srinagar.”

Earlier, Army and Airforce had evacuated two critically ill patients who were in dire need of medical help, from Gurez to Bandipora. The statement said that Mrs Gulshana Begum a resident of village Tharbal, Gurez District Bandipora, who was in her ninth month of pregnancy developed abdominal pain first, on Mar 28 14. She was diagnosed by the Army doctor at Gurez same day, however she needed immediate medical attention at a better equipped hospital and required urgent evacuation by Air to Srinagar.

“Due to bad weather, she could not be evacuation on March 28 and 29. The patient was continuously monitored by the Army doctor at Gurez,” the statement said and added that on Mar 30, when weather finally opened up, Gulshana was evacuated to Srinagar by an Airforce helicopter, for further treatment.

In another incident a four year boy, Ugil Iqbal a resident of Wampura, Gurez was also evacuated by helicopter to Bandipora, same day. The boy had a suspected brain tumor.
