Army Wednesday denied the reports about the killing of five army men and missing of four others in Sonamarg area of district Ganderbal.

“An avalanche hit the army camp in Sonamarg after which a rescue operation was started,” Defence PRO Col Rajesh Kalia said.

He added that only one army soldier was killed in the incident.

Col Kalia strongly denied the reports about the missing of any army soldiers after the avalanche.

Pertinently, Last year in March, 11 soldiers died in an avalanche at an army post at the Siachen glacier, the world’s highest battlefield.

Heavy snow has triggered avalanches and landslides at many places in the state.
