SRINAGAR: Budgam police have busted a gang of car lifters by arresting three people and recovered fake documents and eleven stolen vehicles on their instance.

On March 2, 2017 a police party of Police Station Magam during checking on Srinagar-Gulmarg road near Agri Kallan crossing intercepted a Maruti EECO car having temporary number KMR(TEM) BA 3094. It was being driven by Mohammad Rafiq Shah son of Abdul Hameed a resident of Ganiepora Buran Pattan. On examination, the documents presented by driver were found fictitious. The temporary number of the instant vehicle was verified and found fake. During the search of the vehicle, fake RC’s, Insurance certificates, NOC’s and objectionable material viz, number plates Iron driller, revert gun, hammer, screws were recovered from the said vehicle.

During further investigation it surfaced that a group of car lifters was operating in Magam area and after stealing vehicle from different places of the valley and outside Kashmir, they were preparing fake documents and selling it to gullible buyers.

Accordingly case FIR No 19/2017 under section 379,420,467,468,471,411, 120-B RPC was registered in police station Magam and a team under the supervision of SDPO Magam was constituted.

During investigations, it surfaced that the car lifters gang preparing fake RC’s, Insurance certificates, NOC’s, Number plates etc of the vehicle companies at Akter Advertisers shop in Budgam. Subsequently a computer system along with available software data was seized. Three persons who were running the gang were arrested.

The arrest of these three people led to the recovery of one each of Maruti EECO white color,  Hando City silver color, Santro white color,  Beat silver color, Toyota Fortuner white color, Tavera White color, Swift VDI White color, Beat Chocolate color, Hyundai I-20 White color and  Swift VDI Green color.

Officials said the investigations were still in progress.
