Strongly criticizing the authorities for unleashing arrest spree, arbitrary and despotic measures against youth of Jammu and Kashmir, Hurriyat (G) Thursday dubbed Omer Abdullah led administration involved in severe human rights violations in valley.
Huriyat (G) in its statement alleged that authorities had enforced graveyard-like silence in Kashmir by dint of gun. “It is putting behind bar the pro-freedom leaders and activists and imposing curbs on their political activities,” reads the statement.
Spokesman Ayaz Akbar said that health of Huriyat leader Shakeel Ahmad Yatoo deteriorated because of his continuous detention in jail, despite court orders for his release. “But police has ignored all these orders and rearrested him in cooked and fabricated cases. Leader is presently lodged in Zainapora police station and police despite his ailing health has failed to provide him medical treatment,” Ayaz said.
Terming the detention of said leader unconstitutional and unjustified, Hurriyat(G) demanded the immediate release of ailing leader. “Police and forces have unleashed a reign of terror and are harassing Showkat Ahmad Hajam and other scores of youths in Hajin .Their houses are being raided and inmates harassed,” statement reads, while adding, “The police is perusing these youth and trying to implicate Arif Ahmad Nata,Lateef Ahmad Parray,Firdoos Ahmad Shah, Zameer Ahmad Dar, Fayaz Ahmad Hajam, Mohammad Ashraf Bato,Bashir Ahmad Lone,Mudasir Ahmad Patwari,Bashir Ahmad Kaya,Meraj u Din Gojri and Ab Rashid Shah.”
Spokesman added the forces have once again started the crackdown in the villages and are hell-bent to create 1990 like situation. Spokesman while expressing his deep concern and anguish over the reports that army and police personals are so infuriated towards the youth and students to such an extent that they are left with no option except to opt for arms. Hurriyat conference in its appeal to international human rights organizations and stressed to take cognizance of the plight of detainees and check the atrocities committed by forces and ensure immediate revocation of PSA which is in force in Jammu Kashmir.
